Darwin Tennis - Levels
Beginner
If you are a beginner,
tennis is a fun sport but most people lose interest very quickly
because they just get frustrated so often by not able to keep the ball
in the court. My advice is to persevere. Everyone, including me,
has had to go through this stage and it takes years and patience to get
your tennis up to par with experienced tennis players. I have had my share
of rejections from players who thought I was not in the same league as
them. I’m glad to say this club has a very friendly atmosphere where
even the most experienced players are willing to give encourangement to
beginners and to offer a bit of coaching too. In addition, there will
be a pool of players at the same level who you can call on to
play with.
Intermediate
Since the tennis
club is a recreational club and not a professional tennis one, our
definition of an intermediate player will have to be more relaxed. If you
can rally with the ball and serve overhead, but you are not one for competition,
then you should consider yourself an intermediate player. I know quite
a few intermediate players who are always looking for a game with others.
Advanced
While there are some
advanced players in the club, some are inevitably more advanced than others.
However, they can all serve, volley and hit groundstrokes in all different
directions. If that sounds like you, we want you to play for Darwin
in
matches. These matches can be taken lightly during the league or seriously
for Cuppers. Most of all, it is meant to be enjoyed. As I have written
earlier, there are big hitters and there are topspin defensive players,
so if you lose badly, it just means that the opponent likes your style
of play. The choice of surfaces is always a huge factor too, so that will
be taken into consideration when playing against other colleges.
