Darwin College Accommodation

A full listing of college accommodation is given here. A separate page provides telephone numbers for most hostels. Allocation of housing from available rooms is done on the basis of the room allocation policy.

Queries can be handled by the accommodation office (ph: 335682, email: accommodation@darwin.cam.ac.uk) whose opening hours are 8.30 am - 4.30 pm weekdays.

Please take note of the guidelines on parties in hostels.

To give you an idea of the different forms of Darwin Accommodation, here are some brief explanations and pictures of some of the Darwin housing. (Click on the photos for larger versions).

On-site College Accommodation

These are rooms located on main college site.

The Rayne Building

On the main college site, the Rayne Building is a 4-storey building attached to the college offices and main building. Six rooms have private showers, some overlook the River Cam on one side of the building while others overlook Queen's Green on the other side of the building.

Newnham Grange

Also attached to the end of the main college building, Newhnam Grange rooms have internet connections also. Some overlook the study centre (those pictured), whilst others overlook the river Cam which runs through Darwin College Grounds.

Old Granary

Situated next to the Study Centre, this particular on-site accommodation is usually filled by 2nd year or beyond students and fellows.

Off-site College Accommodation (College Hostels)

These are rooms that are located close to college, within walking distance or a short cycle ride away.

Gwen Raverat House

Houses usually First year PhD and MPhil students. It is a fairly new (opened 1996), 3-storey building. It is the closest off-site accommodation to Darwin College (2 minute Walk!)

Frank Young House

(Views from front, back, and outwards to back respectively)

Situated just off Sidgewick Ave, this is a new-style building, close to the college grounds (approximately 5 minutes on foot). Another 'modern style' building, it overlooks a sports field at the back.

Wordsworth Grove

Located just off Sidgewick Avenue, this house is close to the college grounds (approximately a 5-minute walk).

45a Newnham Road

Situated above the Barbers shop a short distance from College.

49a Newnham Road

Situated above a shop a short distance from College.

The Malting House

Situated in Newnham Road opposite the Granta on the corner of Malting Lane.
