Computing Facilities

The Study Centre includes a computer facility primarily oriented towards basic word processing, web-based research, e-mail and black and white laser printing on PC and Mac platforms. There is some support for more specialised applications and X-Windows access to Unix-based machines. There is also a computer configured for video-editing with cables for digital cameras and a DVD-recorder. A scanner and related software are also avaliable.

Appointments

The Computer Office in the Study Centre is currently staffed from 2pm to 5pm on weekdays and walk-ins are encouraged. However, since the Computer Officer may be elsewhere in College during part of this time, you may want to make an appointment in advance (email: co@darwin.cam.ac.uk or phone: (3)35778).

Network Connections in Student Rooms

All the rooms on Main Site, with the exception of 2 and 3 Newnham Road, have network connections which can be activated if you apply for a network connection. Most of the outlying College hostels are also connected to the network, the main exception being those on Barton Rd, which are not. Darwin Wireless Network

A wireless network is in operation at Darwin College, providing coverage in various parts of the main buildings and in the grounds. More information on how this works is available on the wireless network page.

Web Site

Web site support staff and policies for website maintenance are described on the web support page. Enquiries about the website or requests for changes should be sent to webmaster@darwin.cam.ac.uk.

Computer Committee

The college computer committee meets once a term. Requests for issues to be discussed by the committee can be made to the committee chair, or via any member (including, ex-officio, the Computer Officer, the DCSA Communications Officer and the College Accountant).
