2012 Cambridge University Rowing Season Underway!

Welcome to Darwin College Boat Club - here you can find out more about rowing in Cambridge.

As you have found this page you may already interested in rowing as a sport, but there are many other benefits to joining the club than just improving your fitness! As the largest society in Darwin, joining is great way to get to know both existing members and new people in the College. There are regular social and competitive events, alongside training in the gym and on the river, and you will find the organising committee helpful, active and enthusiastic.

You don’t have to be athletic or have rowed previously to be a member, as the Captains will match your sporting ability and time availability to the training schedule. Even if you aren’t interested in the training, you can still make an absolutely vital contribution to the club as a coxswain. The cox steers the boat, motivates the crew and expects the rowers to follow his or her commands absolutely!

We have a successful women’s crew who enjoyed great success in the last May Bumps, and our men’s 1st and fellow’s boats both had female coxes competing.

Many rowers across the University find that they forge incredibly strong bonds with their team mates, and also find it easy to make friends in other Colleges due to the large number of ‘boaties’ in Cambridge. Rowing is one of the best ways to feel connected to the Cambridge tradition and spirit!

To get started, please contact either the Men’s Captain, Danny Houslay, or the Women’s Captain Iva Cek to find out about our fresher’s events at the start of term.
