Microsoft Research Fellowship

The Governing Body of Darwin College, Cambridge, and Microsoft Research Ltd jointly invite applications for a stipendiary Research Fellowship supporting research in the field of adaptive computing (including topics such as machine learning, probabilistic inference, and computer vision, as well as biomedical applications of these topics).

Eligibility

Graduates of any university are eligible to apply, irrespective of age, provided they have a doctorate or an equivalently recognised qualification, or expect to have submitted a thesis before taking up the Fellowship.

 Tenure

The Fellowship will be tenable for two years and is expected to commence in October 2010 or on a mutually agreed date no earlier than 1 June 2010. In some cases it may be possible to extend the Fellowship for a third year, subject to the agreement of both Microsoft Research and Darwin College.

Duties

The successful candidate will engage in research full-time at the Microsoft Research Laboratory in Cambridge.  The Fellow will be a member of the Governing Body of Darwin College and will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the College which may be seen on the College website or on request to the Bursar.   The Statutes include the obligation to reside in or near Cambridge for at least two-thirds of each University term, but the Governing Body will normally excuse absences made necessary by the nature of the research undertaken.

Stipend and Emoluments

The Fellow will be a full employee of Microsoft Research Ltd at a salary which will be dependent upon experience. The Fellow will be able to take seven meals a week at the normal College table free of charge and additional or special meals at his or her own expense. Guests, not normally exceeding two in number on any one occasion, may be invited to lunch or dinner, ten of them free of charge within any quarter of the year. It may be possible to provide limited rented accommodation, subject to availability, for which a charge will be made.
