Picture tour of DarwinHere are a few photos of life around the college, to give you an idea of what Darwin College is like when one is a student here. (Click on the photos for larger versions). The dining hall is the main social centre of the college. Informal mealtimes provide an opportunity for discussion with students and fellows in many disciplines, as well as being a place to entertain friends and visitors. But many people come to meals just for the food. Darwin is justly famed amongst Cambridge colleges for the standard of the cooking - with no distinction made between students and fellows at meal times. A reading room with comfortable chairs is ideal for sleeping off the effects of all that eating! (The reading room is provided with the day's newspapers, and is a place for quiet relaxation - serious study takes place in the study centre). It is easy to find an even more quiet and relaxing spot to sit and read - but at the risk of never returning! At the end of another hard day of study, it's off to bed. Darwin may not be as architecturally distinguished as some colleges, but a few lucky students still have the chance to live in old and interesting buildings, such as the Old Granary that lies at the end of the garden. |
