Dr Michael Rands

Dr Mike Rands was installed as the 7th Master of Darwin College on 2nd October 2020.

Dr Rands is a conservation biologist with over 30 years of experience in research and leadership in environmental science and biodiversity conservation. Most recently he served as Executive Director of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI) at the University of Cambridge; an initiative that seeks to transform the global understanding and conservation of biodiversity through the integration of research, education, policy and practice. Dr Rands was previously the Chief Executive of BirdLife International. He is broadly interested in interdisciplinary approaches to conserving the natural world, capacity development, and innovative solutions to address global challenges.. He is a Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cambridge, a Fellow of Cambridge Judge Business School and a Trustee of the Cambridge Commonwealth, European & International Trust.
