How to Donate

Regular giving on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis is a very important source of income for the College, as it allows us to plan with confidence for the future. We are enormously grateful for the generosity of our donors, who help the College maintain its position as a centre of postgraduate excellence.

There is a variety of ways you can make a gift to the College. You can choose to make a one-off donation or set up a direct debit to give regularly. For both the following options are available:

  • Give securely online through Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) using your debit/credit card or a CAF account.
  • Fill in and send us the Donation Form to Development Office, Darwin College, Silver Street, Cambridge CB3 9EU. You can use a bank transfer, cheque or CAF voucher for a single gift or set up a regular donation via direct debit. If you are sending a cheque/CAF voucher, please enclose it with the form (made payable to “Darwin College”).

Gift Aid

Darwin College is a registered charity, and as such can reclaim the tax on any donation made. So, if you pay tax in the United Kingdom, under the Gift Aid scheme, Darwin College can reclaim from the Inland Revenue the tax already paid on your donation, making your gift more valuable to us. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, then you will be able to reclaim 20% of the value of your donation.

Other ways to give

Payroll giving

This is a simple and tax efficient way to donate directly from your monthly salary. You decide how much you would like to give on a monthly basis. The deductions are made before you pay tax and therefore you get tax relief on your donation. So, if you are a basic rate taxpayer and authorise a monthly donation of £10 then the net cost to you is only £8.00.

Please speak to your employer for more information on this method of giving.

Gifts of listed shares, securities and property

Gifts of shares, securities and property by UK taxpayers attract full tax relief from Capital Gains tax and allow the donor to claim income tax relief on the full value of the gift at the time of transfer. Please contact the Development Director if you are interested in donating in this way.
