Darwin alumna Dr Alice Bunn (PhD Materials Science 1995-99) will present the story of the International Space Station as it marks its 25th anniversary, in an Archive on Four documentary to be broadcast this weekend.
Former International Director of the UK Space Agency, and current President of the UK Space Trade Association, Alice’s career in space has mirrored the timeline of the ISS. In the programme, she will explore the unlikely collaborations which led to its creation, talk to those involved in making it a reality, and consider its future.
“It’s not really a technical story, it’s more a story of geopolitics,” Alice says.
“We go all the way back to 1975 and look at the relationship between the US and Russia, and we kind of take it all the way through. Most of it’s through first person accounts and interviews, and it tells the story.”
Out of This World: 25 Years of the ISS will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 at 8pm on Saturday 1st November.
An interview with Alice will appear in the winter issue of the Darwinian magazine, to be published in January.
