Good luck to Darwin College Boat Club, who flew to South Korea yesterday to participate in the World Class University Rowing Festival.

From 21st-25th August, rowers will compete on the Taehwa river in Ulsan, in the south of the country. Darwin’s crew, the only participants from the University of Cambridge, will join students from the University of Oxford, Stanford University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University, Peking University, the University of Tokyo, Hamburg University, UNIST and the University of Ulsan for the Festival, which will be broadcast on Korean television. Up to 30,000 spectators are expected to attend in person.

Samuel Cole, Overall Captain for Darwin College Boat Club 2024-25, said:

“Darwin has been training hard on the Cam over the summer vacation — one of the only Colleges to be regularly rowing since May Bumps. The Festival includes several 800m races as well as a 3km ‘tour’ through the city, with races conducted in both 8+ and 4+ boats. The weather is expected to be a sunny, scorching 31 degrees each day. There will also be cultural exchange and rowing outreach with locals in Ulsan.”
