Congratulations to Louis Cameron (PhD English), Lewis Strachan (PhD Medical Science), Ruth Ní Mhuircheartaigh (MEd with Mathematics) and Jon White (PhD Geography), as well as the team reserve Ben Rudd (PhD Education), on their spectacular performance in University Challenge.
In reaching the semi-finals, the quizzers equalled the Darwin record set in 2018/19 by a team captained by Jason Golfinos, and matched last year in a team led by Harrison Whitaker. Darwin also competed in 2020-21, led by Kerry Milowicki, making Louis Cameron the College’s first non-American captain.
After winning two out of three of their quarter-final matches, the team lost out to Edinburgh University in a hard-fought battle of the buzzers last night. Appropriately enough, the gong interrupted a final question on the number of kings called Louis who had occupied the French throne.
“Oh Darwin, what a run you’ve had,” said host Amol Rajan. “We’ve loved getting to know you – thank you so much for being such great players.”
Thank you to the team for representing Darwin so brilliantly. We couldn’t be prouder of you all.
