Through a new display in the College library, Assistant Librarian Rebecca Le Marchand is encouraging Darwin members to share a very personal insight – the books that matter to them.

Students, Fellows and staff are invited to choose a book which has shaped their evolution in some form whether personally, professionally or intellectually, and to write a paragraph on the book and its impact. The library will then purchase the book, displaying it with the recommendation. The books and write-ups on display will be swapped as further contributions are received, with past pieces retained in a file to be consulted and enjoyed.

The initial display includes books suggested by the Master, Dr Mike Rands; College Porter Karol Guzla; Munby Fellow Dr Grace Exley; Darwin Visiting Member in the Department of Radiology Dr Christina Schmidt; and PhD student in Politics and International Studies Yuefeng Shi.

“I would like this display to break down barriers between people, create some great conversations, and to be a way for members of Darwin to leave a little bit of themselves and their own stories behind them as they pass through the College,” Rebecca explains.
