Darwin Fellow Dr Ioannis Kontoyiannis has been named Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.
Ioannis, who is Churchill Professor of Mathematics of Information, received the honour in recognition of his outstanding contributions to fundamental problems in information theory; and for consistent and important contributions in developing the deep connections of information theory with probability and statistics.
For over 85 years the designation of IMS Fellow has honoured those who have demonstrated distinction in research or leadership that has profoundly influenced the field of mathematical statistics. Established in 1935, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics is an international membership organisation which fosters the development and dissemination of the theory and applications of statistics and probability. The IMS has over 4,700 active members throughout the world, approximately 10% of whom have earned the status of Fellowship.
