Congratulations to Darwin Emeritus Fellow George Gomori, who has been awarded the 2024 Literary Prize by The Polish Association of Writers Abroad. The award, which will be presented next month, reflects George’s lifetime contribution to Polish literature.

Born in Budapest in 1934, George left Hungary following the country’s revolution in 1956, in which he participated as a student organiser. He continued his studies at Oxford, and taught in the United States, before joining Darwin as a Fellow in Polish and Hungarian Literature in 1969. He has published 12 books of poetry in Hungarian, four in English and one in Polish as well as numerous works of criticism.

George’s autobiography, Soknyelvű életem (My Life in Many Languages) was published in Hungary last month.
