Architects Jeremy Dixon and Edward Jones returned to Darwin yesterday to visit the buildings they designed which, 30 years on, are central to College life.

Through their practice, Dixon Jones, the duo created the Study Centre and the student accommodation at Frank Young House, which were both completed in 1994. The Study Centre won a RIBA Award for its light-filled design, overlooking the River Cam, while Frank Young House is known for its nautical echoes. Dixon Jones was also behind the reconstruction of the Royal Opera House and the extension to the National Portrait Gallery.

The pair were joined by the Master, Dr Mike Rands; Bursar, Mr John Dix; Dean, Dr Duncan Needham and Emeritus Fellows in Architecture Professors Dean Hawkes and François Penz, as well as Peter StJohn, the architect behind the planned Garden Room, and current Darwin Architecture students. The party enjoyed a tour of the buildings and a discussion around their design, followed by a lunch in the Richard King Room.
