Darwin played host last week to an exhibition imagining a proposed future for the Yanqing Olympic Park, site of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

Bringing together eight zero-carbon projects, designed to echo the traditional Chinese concept of ‘Eight Scenic Views’, the conceptual exhibition envisions the site in 2062, following the realisation of China’s 2060 carbon neutrality goals. The plans are built on reasonable speculations about existing technologies.

The exhibition, Yanqing Olympic Park 2062: The Interaction Between Technology and Poetry was conceived by the site’s architect Li Xinggang, Chief Architect of China Architecture Design & Research Group, founder of Atelier Li Xinggang, and Professor of Architecture at Tianjin University.

Professor Li gave a lecture at Darwin to provide context to the display, which was presented in the Bradfield Room on 27 March. The event was oveerseen at Darwin by Emeritus Fellow in Architecture Professor François Penz, and alumnus Professor Andong Lu (PhD Architecture 2009), now Dean of Architecture at Nanjing University.
